Is Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) and Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) safe?Your safety and well-being is a priority at every session. All clients are provided with a safety briefing at the commencement of every session and our horses are carefully selected for their participation. All our horses and all animals on the farm are cared for as per animal welfare guidelines. Our lead facilitating therapist Warren is a Registered Nurse who is trained in Counselling, St John’s First Aid & CPR, Trauma Informed / Sensitive Care, Somatic Experiencing and is registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and is thus required to abide by the practice code of ethics. Warren is also currently a Level One student in EQUUSOMA Horse-Human Trauma Recovery & Somatic Experiencing Therapy, whose principles of trauma-informed sensitive care and somatic experiencing are informed by Dr Peter Levine. If you have any safety concerns prior to your booking, please share them during your phone consultation.

What should I wear? All sessions are held outside with the horses, so dress according to the weather conditions. Beechmont can often be very cool, so a warm jacket and sturdy, closed-toe footwear such as boots are essential, along with a hat.

Does your site have disabled access? We welcome NDIS participants who are plan-managed or self-managed with a willingness, capacity and ability to journey alongside you through your experiences. Please be aware, we cannot currently accommodate wheelchair access on our farm.
-
Are your sessions weather dependent? Our outdoor sessions are weather dependent with indoor sessions being an option if required.
-
Will I be riding horses?Generally speaking, no horse riding or mounted work is involved in our sessions, and no previous horse experience is required. EAP or EAL sessions with our horses are facilitated with you on the ground, and engaging with the horse/s in a way that feels safe and right for you.
-
Why choose EAP?Sometimes being in a clinical setting for therapy is too much, and being outdoors and with animals and the horses can feel less judgmental and more welcoming. People of all ages and abilities can benefit as EAP is diverse and can assist with a range of issues in a safe space to heal, grow and explore while in the powerful presence of horses. We welcome everyone and invite you to contact me with any further questions.
